37th edition, Issue 1/2026
ed. Pavel Drábek
The thematic issue of the Theatre Revue (2026/1) revolves around the question of how to think about theatre and performance history, and how to write it. The issue engages with the international debate that reflects on the changes in the field, both in matters of research and pedagogy (eg., the changes in teaching performance and theater studies at universities), and in the question of the ongoing media transformation (digital and intermedial performance, incorporation of AI or the changing position of the theatre in society). Several critical essays focus on older theatrical, performative and para-theatrical phenomena (ancient, classical and medieval theories of theatre and acting, theatre architecture and restoration, archives, theatrical press cultures). The publication demonstrates that an indelible part of the critical theatre work is not only a methodological and theoretical grounding, but also a reflection of the historiographical procedures and the very process of history writing.
