The publication ethics of Divadelní revue follows the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Code of Conduct, available at www.publicationethics.org, and the Publishing Ethics Resource Kit, available at www.elsevier.com/editors/publishing-ethics/perk.
Duties of the editor
Review procedure
Texts published in the Studies and Materialia sections are subject to a peer review, including an initial review by the editor and an anonymised review by one or two anonymous reviewers; for texts in English, each reviewer shall be from a different country as a rule, in accordance with the Journal’s international status.
Decision to publish the work
Editors of Divadelní revue decide which articles submitted to the journal will be published, in accordance with the publication ethics. The editors follow the policy of the Journal’s editorial board and comply with the applicable laws concerning libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism. The editors may consult their decision with the editorial staff or reviewers.
Fair play
The editors evaluate the manuscript based on the quality of its intellectual content, regardless of the author’s race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, citizenship status or political affiliation.
Confidentiality
No member of the editorial staff may disclose any information concerning a submitted manuscript to any person other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisors, and the editorial board.
Publication, conflict of interest and other issues
The editor’s decisions to retract an article, publish a notice of possible errors or corrections of an article published in Divadelní revue shall follow the COPE Retraction guidelines. Without the author(s)’ express consent, the editorial staff may not use any unpublished material contained in a submitted manuscript for their own research purposes. Protected information or ideas learned in the review process must be kept confidential and may not be used for personal gain. The editors are responsible for ensuring that editorial decisions are in no way influenced by any advertising revenue, reprints or other commercial activities.
The editorial staff must ensure a fair and appropriate peer review process. The editors must abstain from review of manuscripts (i.e. ask another member of the editorial staff or editorial board to arrange for the review and assessment) in the case of a conflict of interest following from the editors’ competitive, collaborative, or other relationship or affiliation to any of the authors, companies or institutions (as appropriate) engaged in the reviewed work. The editors must require all contributors to disclose any possible conflict of interest; if a conflict of interest is revealed only after publication of the contribution, the editor shall publish corrections. Other steps may be taken where necessary, such as publishing a retraction notice or a notice of possible errors in the article.
Duties of reviewers
Participation in editorial decisions
The peer review process supports the editor’s decisions and may improve the manuscript through communication with the author.
Eligibility
A reviewer who has been approached to make a review shall notify the editor without delay if the reviewer feels insufficiently qualified to review the research covered by the manuscript or knows that (s)he could not complete the review within the deadline, so that other reviewers can be contacted.
Confidentiality
Each manuscript intended for review must be treated as confidential and may not be shown to or discussed with any third persons without the editor’s consent.
Objectivity
Reviews must be objective. Personal criticism of the author(s) is considered inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly and support them with relevant arguments.
Citation of sources
Reviewers shall include references to the relevant published works not cited by the author(s). Any claim that a particular observation, inference or argument has been published previously must properly cite the previous work concerned. Further, reviewers shall bring to the editor’s attention any significant similarities or overlaps between the manuscript under review and other published data of which they are aware.
Disclosure and conflict of interest
Protected information or ideas learned in the review process must be kept confidential and may not be used for personal gain. Reviewers must abstain from reviewing manuscripts in the case of a conflict of interest following from the reviewers’ competitive, collaborative, or other relationship or affiliation to any of the authors, companies, or institutions engaged in the reviewed work.
Duties of authors
Publication standards
Authors of papers presenting original research must provide accurate information on the research conducted and an objective assessment of its merits. Their article should also accurately disclose source data and contain sufficient information and references to allow replication of its content. Any fraudulent or deliberately inaccurate claims constitute unethical behaviour and are unacceptable.
Originality and plagiarism
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their work is entirely original; where using other authors’ works and/or words, proper attribution is required.
Multiple, duplicate or simultaneous publication
As a rule, the author may not publish a manuscript describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Simultaneous submission of the same manuscript to more than one journal constitutes unethical publishing and is unacceptable.
Citation of sources
Authors must make attributions to the authors of all works used in their article. Authors are required to cite publications that have significantly influenced the essence of the submitted work.
Authorship of the manuscript
Authorship should be attributed only to those who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution or interpretation of the submitted study. All major contributors should be listed as co-authors. Other persons who contributed to essential aspects of the research project, if any, should be mentioned in the contributors’ section. The corresponding author shall ensure that the list of authors of the manuscript indicates all relevant co-authors (as defined above) and names no persons who are not actual co-authors. Further, the author shall ensure that all co-authors have received and approved the final version of the paper and given their consent to submission of the final version for publication. All co-authors must be clearly identified upon submission of the manuscript. Any requests for additional specification of co-authors after the acceptance of a manuscript are subject to the editor’s approval.
Disclosure and conflict of interest
In the manuscript, all authors must disclose any financial or other material conflicts of interest that could affect the results presented in the manuscript or the interpretation thereof. All sources of financial support must be disclosed.
Major errors in published papers
If an author discovers a major error or inaccuracy in his/her published work, the author must immediately notify the editor or publisher of the Journal accordingly and co-operate with them in the retraction of the article or publication of a correction notice.
Duties of the editorial board
Editorial autonomy
Divadelní revue clearly defines the respective roles of the editor-in-chief, the editors, the editorial staff and collaborators to guarantee the autonomy of editorial decisions free from any influence of advertisers or other commercial partners.
Intellectual property and copyright
We protect Divadelní revue’s intellectual property and copyright, its brands, authors and publishing partners by presenting and preserving the final published version of each article. Divadelní revue guarantees the integrity and transparency of the published articles in terms of conflicts of interest, publication and research funding, publication and research ethics, publication and research misconduct, confidentiality, authorship, corrections, clarification and retraction of articles, and timely publication of content.
Research misconduct
In the case of an alleged or proven research misconduct, fraudulent publication or plagiarism, the editorial board, in close cooperation with the editorial staff, will take all necessary steps to clarify the situation and correct the article in question, which may include immediate publication of a correction notice or, in the most serious cases, retraction of the article concerned.
